Process for Still Life Oil Painting

Once my grisaille was finished, I began to work on color. I started with the cardboard background to get a feel for glazing before diving into the object details.

It was difficult to try and match the cardboard color. It turned out to need a lot more blue than I anticipated!

Once I did cardboard, I worked on the passport. One thing I found was that it was really hard to get the blue to show up over the black, so I had to experiment with opacity.

Finally, it was time for the rest of the details. This was a long process with many changes. One big challenge was getting the fruit to be both the right shade and the right brightness.
