This part year in Art III was characterized by a lot of growth in my art. Through the four major projects, self portrait and artist copy, self portrait sculpture, still life oil painting, and abstract expressionism, I learned different things to develop my art. Once I finished my practice, I started on my large abstract expressionism painting. I started with a red and yellow wash. I then made marks with the same color, starting out with a fiery theme. My fiery theme is shown in the phoenix-like shape in the middle. I also painted a fish at the bottom Once that was done, I flipped my canvas and continued with my red and yellow theme to create more marks and fill it up. I started a new unit to create a non-objective abstract expressionism painting. We first started with small canvasses to practice. I wanted to have a green color scheme, so I used blue and yellow for my wash. With the charcoal, I drew a rough outline of a shark and other lines for a sea theme. I started to create a sea theme with the charcoal. Next, I made marks with undiluted paint. I added marks based off the charcoal with paint The paint turned out to be a lot more yellow

I am on the final stages of my still life oil painting. This has been an extremely fun experience for me to learn oil painting, and I hope to improve my skills and maybe use oil painting as my main medium in the future. Today my goal was to finalize colors, specifically the gold. Once my grisaille was finished, I began to work on color. I started with the cardboard background to get a feel for glazing before diving into the object details. It was difficult to try and match the cardboard color. It turned out to need a lot more blue than I anticipated! Once I did cardboard, I worked on the passport. One thing I found was that it was really hard to get the blue to show up over the black, so I had to experiment with opacity. I next worked on the passport

I have started to get more detailed in my grisaille process because I recently got a small brush for the details. I started this out by first making sure all elements were present. I used the small brush to create the key. I wanted to make sure every major detail was present before fleshing out form and smaller details. Here I added the key and fruit to the tin with the small brush, as well as the main highlights on the gavel. After that was done, I started to work on form. T

My still life has gone through many changes. I have tried to incorporate a variety of distances from the front, angles, and heights for an interesting composition I liked my first one when I made the key hanging instead of leaning against the crystal, but there was a lot of negative space and the color scheme was boring. At the start of this project, I worked on my head shape and getting general features. It was difficult but fun to try to get the front view right while also making sure the side profiles looked accurate. Next, I added eyes. It was a difficult process to try to get the right size and depth for the eyes, because I also had to add my eyelids on top. Overall, this was a difficult process but I think I definitely improved my sculpting skills. I think I could work on overall face l

On my first day creating my Artist Copy, I struggled a bit with the angles of the lines, but I like how I used varying line weights. My second day was when I started understanding how to best capture the angle of the lines. I think I could have made the lines in the areas with many of them more parallel, so it is clear to see them but they still show the shading. Overall I like how this day, and the project, turned out.
